Properly Maintain your Compost

4 necessary pieces to every Compost pile

Browns and Greens:
A good mix of browns and greens in your compost pile is about 4:1 brown (carbon) to green (nitrogen) and this will ensure a nice dirt smell

Air:

keep aeration by turn regularly with a pitch fork (some compost bins will have a rotate feature)
Water:
keep your compost pile moist like a damp sponge or it will take longer for it to break down, to much water and it will turn slimy

  1. Um, I'm amazed... Did you do all of this Jenny?! I'm a blog virgin, so I'm going to sound really stupid... but, did you create all of these pages about composting and Steps 1-5. Nice work! I'm so proud of you!

    1. Hi Lonnie! Yes, I do all of this. Gardening sounded so complex and I did so much research to figure out just the basics and found it is really quite easy. I thought breaking it down to a step-by-step process of 'what you have to do when' would help others realize how easy it is to... stay tuned for other 'planning' tips coming up next!
